Parks and Recreation Commission

The Parks and Recreation Commission has the power and the duty to make recommendations regarding all public parks, waterfront or lakes as allowed by Michigan Law, and any lands or lots heretofore devised and bequeathed to or purchased by the City for park purposes and shall make recommendations regarding the ornamenting, adorning, laying out and improving of the grounds of such parks and may recommend the adoption of any and all rules necessary for the use of such parks. All recommendations shall be made to the City Council, either directly or through the City Manager. This Commission works with the City Manager to develop a 5 year Parks & Recreation Plan.

Commissioners hold appointed office. The Commission meets the third Thursday of January, March, May, July, September, and November at 7:00 PM in Council Chambers, located on the lower level of the Mill Building at 201 N. Main Street, Linden, Michigan, 48451.

Adopt a Bench Program

This program is for individuals, families, businesses or organizations who wish to help contribute to the beauty and relaxation of our city’s parks. There are two options available to Adopt a Bench:

1. Adopt a Bench and do the work yourself. The first year the benches must be thoroughly scraped and cleaned or when possible, power washed and stained with two coats of stain. Every subsequent year the benches need to be stained no later than July 4. The adoptee will purchase the approved stain directly from The Stain Shop in Linden. A plaque with the adoptees name will be provided by the City. The adoption period is for 10 years. At any time that the bench is no longer maintained it will be available for re-adoption.

2. Adopt a Bench for a one-time fee of $500 and the bench will be cleaned up and maintained by the City. The fee would be used to offset the cost of the stain, labor and a plaque on the bench. The adoption period is for 10 years. A plaque will be provided as pictured:
