City of Linden Hydrant Flushing May 4th – 9th, 2026

The City of Linden Department of Public Works will be flushing water hydrants between the hours of 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM, beginning Monday, May 4 ^th and continuing through Saturday, May 9 ^th . During the flushing process, hydrant valves are opened to forcefully flush sediment from water mains. This process is necessary to ensure that the municipal water system effectively delivers the highest quality of water possible. In addition to flushing the lines, this process also allows staff the opportunity to inspect hydrants to ensure they are operating properly.

During this process, water to homes and businesses may become discolored. The discoloration is caused by the stirring of silt and iron in the system which may result in cloudy, brown, and/or reddish colored water. This process does not affect the safety of the water. If you experience discolored water, you should allow your cold-water faucets to run until the water runs clear. Homeowners should avoid running hot water while experiencing discolored water to avoid filling hot water tanks with discolored water. Water customers should avoid washing clothes with discolored water which can stain clothes. After flushing your water system clear, it is best to run a small wash cycle without clothes, or with dark clothes only. If clothing articles appear stained, keep articles wet and rewash the load using a clothing safe stain/rust remover. We apologize for any inconvenience this process may cause to our customers.

Resurfacing Project for E. Broad Street

The construction work zone and detour for the E. Broad Street Project are now in place. Due to the weather forecast, the majority of construction activities will be delayed until Thursday, April 30, 2026.

Note the following for those within the construction work zone:

Mail Delivery
Mail carriers will continue to access your property throughout the project when possible. However, there may be times when active construction temporarily blocks access. In those cases, the post office will hold your mail until the next available delivery.

If you are expecting important mail on days when your property is inaccessible, you may pick it up directly at the post office. The Postmaster recommends calling ahead to make arrangements at 810-735-7072.

Trash Service
Priority Waste trucks will generally be able to collect your trash from the normal location. If construction is occurring directly in front of your home on pickup day, please move your trash cans to another accessible area on your property or a neighbor’s property so the trucks can reach them.

Roadway Work Continues in Downtown Linden

The bridge repair work on the southbound lane of N. Bridge Street over the Shiawassee River is nearly complete. The contractor will now move operations to the northbound lanes beginning tomorrow, Friday, April 24, 2026 . Two-way traffic will remain, but the work will shift to the opposite side of the bridge. This change will require another lane shift in order to create a safe work zone for workers in the northbound lanes.

Weather permitting, the work is expected to take several weeks to complete.

Drivers approaching the construction zone should exercise caution to ensure safety for themselves and the workers. Here are some key precautions:

- Slow Down: Reduce speed when approaching the work zone to avoid accidents.

- Follow Signage: Pay attention to warning signs and flaggers if directing traffic.

- Stay Alert: Watch for workers, equipment, and lane changes

2026 Recycle Day- Genesee County Metropolitan Planning Commission

GCMPC is pleased to announce the 2026 Recycle Day event schedule for household hazardous waste and electronics collection. By attending these events, participants are supporting Genesee County’s goal of healthy, livable, and safe communities by taking part in a structured and organized approach to dealing with materials that pose a risk to Genesee County landfills, waterways, and community spaces.

Residents must register to schedule. Appointments are limited. The events are for household waste only; we will not accept commercial waste.

Four Recycle Day events will be held May through August. The 2026 Recycle Day events are as follows:

May 19, 2026

June 16, 2026

July 14, 2026

August 18, 2026

Registration for all four events is now open until full. Once full, please email Recycle@geneseecountymi.gov to be put on a waiting list.

The City of Linden Fire Department is currently accepting applications for the position of probationary paid on-call firefighters (volunteer), especially those that are available during the daytime hours. If you are looking for a way to give back to your community and experience the rewards of hard work and a great team atmosphere, please submit an application to the Fire Department.

The Linden Fire Department is made up of paid, on-call volunteers who are residents of our local community. Many of us are your neighbors, co-workers, or friends. Linden's firefighters do not live at the fire station or spend all day working a shift at the fire station. We are a group of men and women who have everyday jobs, but are ready to go at any time that a call comes in.

We might be builders, landscapers, farmers, business owners, stay-at-home parents, or even retirees; but when the call comes we become part of a dedicated team ready to face any emergency. We may be volunteers, but we are trained and capable people on the front line saving lives and property.

Minimum qualifications for the position of probationary paid on-call firefighters include:

Live in or near the City of Linden's Fire Department service area.
Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
Must provide proof of High School Graduation or G.E.D.
Must be physically able to perform the duties of a firefighter.
Must pass a physical exam and drug screen.
Must be able to pass a physical agility test.
Must have a valid driver's license. A valid Michigan driver's license is required for initial employment and must be maintained while an employee.
A satisfactory background check conducted for criminal record, driving record, and personal history.
Must possess and/or be able to acquire firefighter certification as mandated by the State of Michigan Fire Fighters Training Council.
Upon completion of all probationary requirements and a successful job evaluation, probationary firefighters will be eligible for promotion to the position of paid on-call firefighter.

City of Linden is able to send you emergency alerts via text message, email, pager, or voice mail (in extreme cases), based on your preferences. It is important that we collect this contact information because many households no longer utilize traditional land-based telephone lines.

The system is intended to be used for emergency alerts, as well as non-emergency incidents that may have significant impacts to residents. Emergency Alerts could be related to specific hazards that require some kind of action be taken such as evacuation, shelter in place, boil water orders, etc. Non-emergency alerts could include significant transportation problems with prolonged impacts or significant ongoing police or fire activity. This list is not meant to be all inclusive, and demonstrates that this system will not be used for routine information. In addition to receiving information on your wireless device, you may also receive notification on your land telephone line (if you have one) depending on the type of incident or event.

Please provide your address and preferred method(s) of contact. Adding your address will allow tailoring so you do not receive alerts that don’t pertain to your geographical area.

Mass Notification Program

The City of Linden is proud to announce Civic Plus as a new platform to allow residents to be provided mass notifications. The goal of Civic Plus is to offer our residents access to important information. Registered community members will receive real-time notifications about critical situations and other important updates via their desired request of email, text, or notifications on the My Alert app!

You MUST create an account sign-up to receive the messages. When you create an account an email address is required. You will also be asked for a phone number and address. A phone number will allow you to receive text messages and voice calls. If you include your address, or turn on location information in the app, you will receive area specific messages.

Please note that this sign-up option is voluntary to all residents.
