DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS

The City of Linden Department of Public Works (DPW) provides a full complement of public works services to the residents, visitors, and business owners in the City of Linden.  Our five person staff is responsible for oversight of and maintenance of water and sewer systems, roads, city facilities, parks, municipal grounds, street lighting, and  Fairview Cemetery.  The DPW strives to provide courteous, professional, and cost effective public services for the Linden Community.

Water System

• Oversee and maintain four community wells, two water towers, one water treatment plant, and associated infrastructure.
• Manages the treatment and distribution of drinking water through approximately 18 miles of water mains.
• Maintains 1,500 water service meters and associated connections.
• Maintains 244 fire hydrants.
• Cross connection inspection and prevention
• Water sampling and testing

Sanitary Sewer System

• Oversee and maintain four sewer lift stations.
• Maintain over 452 sanitary sewer structures and 18 miles of sanitary sewer mains.

Storm Sewer System

• Maintain 914 storm sewer structures/inlets and 13 Miles of stormwater mains.
• Maintain Storm Sewer Roadside Ditches and Culverts.

Road Maintenance

• DPW staff is responsible for maintaining over 17 miles of city streets. Responsibilities include:
• Snow and ice removal
• Pothole patching on concrete and asphalt roadways.
• Road grading and dust control for dirt roadways
• Roadway markings
• Sign maintenance.
• Debris removal

Building and Facility Maintenance

• DPW staff is responsible for the oversight and maintenance of 8 buildings, 1 picnic shelter, and 1 gazebo. Responsibilities include:
• General maintenance
• Custodial services
• Plumbing and electrical maintenance
• HVAC maintenance
• Fire suppression
• Sidewalk and parking lot maintenance

Parks and Municipal Properties

• Responsibilities include:
• Turf, grounds, and landscape bed maintenance.
• Tree planting and maintenance
• Play structure, bench, picnic table, boardwalk, sidewalk, and parking lot maintenance
• Rubbish removal
• Special event support
• Oversee the operation and maintenance of streetlights throughout the downtown

Fairview Cemetery

• Responsibilities include:
• Tree, turf, and landscape maintenance
• Burials
• Headstone placement and maintenance
• Driveway maintenance
• Snow removal
• Rubbish removal
