Treasurer’s Department

The Treasurer’s Department provides a variety services for the City and our residents. The goal of our department is to provide you with easily accessible information concerning property taxes, utility bills, special assessments, and the City’s financial records. We strive to serve our citizens to the best of our ability and to treat everyone fairly and with respect.

From this site, you are able to print from the Links section that you may need to file with our office related to your property. Also, you may use the information on this site to become familiar with the City’s budget and financial statements.

You now have the ability to pay current City taxes and utility bills on-line or by phone with a credit card or electronic check. To pay on-line, click on property tax information or utility billing below and create an account. To pay by phone call 1-800-272-9829, enter the City of Linden jurisdiction code of 7110, and then provide your individual account number when prompted. Charges for using this service are generated by Official Payments Corporation which accepts and processes the transactions for the City. The City does not use taxpayer revenue to pay for an individual's choice to use this service but requires the individual to pay for their option to use this service.

Charges are as follows:

  • Electronic Check - $3.00 for an e-check of less than $10,000 ($10 fee NSF)
  • Credit Card - 3% per transaction - Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover
  • Payments may also be made using the dropbox in the rear of City Hall

Utility Billing

Our department is responsible for the billing and collection of QUARTERLY utility bills for water, sewer, and solid waste. Sewer, water and solid waste charges are billed quarterly on the first of January, April, July, and October. Payment is due by the 25th of the month the bill is mailed, by 5:00 p.m. When the due date falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or holiday payment will be accepted in the office until 5:00 p.m. on the following date the office is open. A 10% late fee is charged on accounts not paid by the due date.

Failure to receive the bill does not waive the 10% late fee. Failure to pay by 5:00 p.m. on the due date will result in being placed on the water shut off list and a fee of $50 to turn your water off and an additional $50 to turn your water back on after your past due bill and fees are paid in full. If you are having trouble making your utility payments, please stop by the office or contact the Treasurer at (810) 735-7980 to discuss enrolling in a payment plan to avoid being placed on the shut off list.

If you would like to receive Paperless Utility Bills and join the City in this cost saving measure, please download the application below, complete it, and return it to City Hall. Your quarterly utility bill will be emailed in PDF format and you will then no longer receive a paper bill in the mail with this option.
