As part of the Safe Drinking Water Act, the State of Michigan requires municipal water systems to test various water samples from around the community to ensure that the residents are receiving quality drinking water. We are currently conducting our second round of sampling for lead and copper levels in residential homes. At this time, we have a limited number of free test kits available for residents connected to the municipal water system. If you are interested in being part of this program, please reach out to our office to register for a free test kit. Test kits are available for a limited time and will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis. Each kit contains everything you need to complete the process including a sample bottle and sampling instructions. The sampling process typically takes 5-10 minutes to complete. The Department of Public Works will deliver the test kit to your home and pick up the sample when you are completed. The deadline for all samples must be completed and scheduled for pick up no later than Monday, November 17, 2025. Call 810-735-7980 to register for a test kit.

Now that the underground work and curb and gutters are complete, the contractor is beginning to work the final grade on the roadway to prepare for paving operations. The current schedule has the paving contractor starting on Monday, August 18 th . In order for the paving contractor to safely and efficiently pave the base lavers of asphalt at the N. Bridge intersection, we will be implementing a temporary full road closure between N. Bridge Street and Beach Buggy Lane Monday morning. All traffic will have to use the Hogan Road connection to access W. Rolston Road during that time. Once the intersection is complete, paving operations will be focused on one continuous lane from end to end. The roadway will have one open lane for traffic as that work progresses. Travel in the open lane will be temporarily controlled by flaggers as paving operations continue. Once one lane is completed from end to end, the contractor will move to the opposite side of the road to begin paving the remaining lane. At that point, traffic will be allowed to travel on the new section of asphalt. Once again, travel will be controlled by flagging operations as work progresses. The contractor will be working directly with the residents and businesses within the work zone to coordinate access. The landscape contractor will continue to progress to the west over the weekend and throughout next week until landscape repairs are completed. The Genesee County Road Commission has advised that the Ripley Road between Tickner St. and Rolston Rd. will be closed to thru traffic on Thursday, August 14th, 2025 from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Another Exciting Project in Linden! The sidewalk across Mill Pond Dam will be closed for several weeks beginning Monday, August 18, 2025. The entire stretch of sidewalk between Tickner Street and Mill Street is scheduled to be replaced with a new stamped concrete walkway. Pedestrians and cyclists will have to use the N. Bridge Street sidewalk to cross the Shiawassee River throughout the closure. Weather permitting, the project should be completed by mid to late September. 

Please be advised that the City has been informed by Priority Waste of truck maintenance issues that will prevent the collection of all Yard Waste today. Residents are asked to leave their Yard Waste at the curb, as it will all be collected tomorrow instead. Trash collection will proceed as regularly scheduled today. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding.

Work continues to progress on the east end of the project between Bridge Street and Beach Buggy Lane. The contractor is final grading the road in preparation for the placement of asphalt. On Monday, August 11th, W. Rolston Rd between Bridge Street and Beach Buggy Lane will be completely shut down to through traffic to allow the contractor to complete the final grading of this section of roadway. The contractor will work with the residents living on this section of the roadway for access. W. Rolston Road between Beach Buggy Lane and Hogan Road will be open for access to the Shiawassee Shores Community. The main message in this report is similar to the previous. Work continues to progress on the west end of the project between Beach Buggy Lane and Hogan Road. The contractor will continue to focus on the installation of the edge drain and road base until it is completed. They will also return to removing additional curb and gutter in the coming days in order to prepare the area for the concrete contractor to return. In addition to the underground work, subcontractors will continue to work on general landscape grading from Beach Buggy Lane to N. Bridge Street. W. Rolston Road between Beach Buggy Lane and N. Bridge Street will remain mostly open, with the possibility of slight delays as motorists make their way around the landscaping contractors. W. Rolston Road between Beach Buggy Lane and Hogan Road will continue to be limited to one lane, with occasional full closures while trucks are loading and unloading. The asphalt contractor will be returning to the project tomorrow to address some asphalt quality issues that have been identified throughout the project. This work will be focused on several small areas, so there should be minimal travel disruptions. We anticipate that one lane of travel will remain open in the work areas. Despite the open lane, we recommend motorists avoid the work zone if possible. This work should be completed within a couple of days. We are also receiving a lot of calls regarding landscape repairs, or the lack thereof. The contractor will continue to move through the neighborhood until all landscape repairs have been completed. If you believe the landscapers have completed your street, but not your property, contact us so that we can make sure you haven’t been overlooked.
